OK, I admit it, I was surfing during a commercial, and I saw this beautiful ring and earrings that stopped me in my tracks. I’m not much of a crystal person but these were Art Deco and classy!

Yes, it was HSN and Heidi Daus. Went to the web site and looked at all the rest of her jewelry. No, I didn’t like everything I saw, but I loved a great deal of it! Wished I could afford everything. There was even one ring that was definitely not my usual style but had me salivating. Large amethyst crystal enclosed around the outside of the stone with metal work & crystal leaves and flower shapes. Substantial yet delicate – not gaudy. It just looked perfect. I could see it on my hand. I could almost feel it.

The fourth item that really caught my eye was a gorgeous broach, again Art Deco, again amethyst crystals but also with a pearl. The broach would set off a classy dinner suit. It would look good on a very chic silk blouse at the collar. Put it on a frillier dress or blouse on the shoulder or at the collar. It would look spectacular a solid color silk scarf draped around the neck and pinned off to the side. I might find a converter and wear it as a pendant depending on the garment neckline style. It needs to have the right setting to be shown off and would not look well on heavy fabrics.

The products are plentiful and the designs range from “Baroque Lavishness” to “Art Deco Chic”. That are the description on the HSN web site and I couldn’t think of better ones. There were spectacular necklaces and earrings but also the delicate and demur items as well. The offering included bracelets, watches, and even hair clips. It is a splendid array of delightful and beautiful items.

Ms. Daus attention to detail is exceptional and goes so far as to work the clasps into the designs. For example a necklace is as beautiful from the back as well as the front. Her two decades of experience has served her well and, in my opinion, puts her in a class by herself. The majority of her jewelry could be mistaken for antique. In addition, her designs will appeal to all ages and tastes.

Yes, I am gushing again, but for good reason. However, let me warn you, these items don’t come cheap. And they shouldn’t. But a number of things were in the $50 to $75 price range. The more lavish and detailed items ranged in price from $200 and up. I remember one necklace was $450. A little hefty for me but it is gorgeous!

I was very pleasantly surprised. Don’t just take my word for it, go see for yourself.

Surfing the Web this morning and came upon a site you should visit for Celtic Jewelry - the New Moon Occult Shop. They are in the UK and offer a wealth of things including some fine Celtic Jewelry. Now personally, I am not a believer in the Occult. I do like fairies and dragons and mystical things - the images and stories - but go no further than that.

This online shop deals mainly in sterling silver Celtic jewelry - everything from rings, necklaces and earrings to anklets and ear cuffs. A good variety. In a general area there is a beautiful butterfly necklace that I want, but with the exchange rate as it is, I'll have to wait a while!

The exchange rate is the only thing that gives me a real problem with considering this site (I just ignore the hard core Occult stuff). Unfortunately, those of us in the US are at a disadvantage at this time. However, I recommend visiting anyway and adding to your wish list because you never know when things will change and the exchange rates will do a 90 or 180 degree reverse.

The Costume Jewelry Breaks

         Ever buy Costume Jewelry with a well known name only to have it break within 2 months of reasonable wear? That's one of my pet peeves. I purchased a watch and a necklace only to have the metal crack and break. A necklace ....maybe, I can be hard on them. But a watch? They should be made for rough wear whether they are made for everyday wear or special occasions.
         The one I bought, I wore once or twice a week and at the end of two months the metal where the watch attached to the band sort of peeled apart. It didn't seem very hard at all. Kind of like it was mixed with plastic. Now, I spent about $75 on that watch on one of the TV shopping channels. The necklace did just about the same thing - broke where the pendent attached to the chain. Both impossible to fix. Both out of the 30 day money back guarantee. Talked to both the sales outlet and the brand customer service, to no avail (they only guaranteed the "works", not the case. The only thing I could do was throw them away and never buy that brand again.
         Since then, I have purchased additional jewelry from that particular outlet. However, I make sure I wear it enough during the guarantee period to determine the durability. So far, only one item has not passed the test. In addition, I've decided that, to me, unless it's sterling silver, not to spend $75 on a watch. I have no use for gold or diamond watches. They just don't fit my lifestyle.
